A tour of the facility will showcase a century old piece of history that has adapted to change and has stood the test of time. The structure was built in 1904 to be the home of the Crystal Plate Ice Company. Frederick at that time was still an agricultural town, with the section located on East Street and what is now known as Everedy Square and Shab Row, as the rapidly growing industrial section of town. During the days before refrigeration, East Street was the home to more than a few icehouses, which were an integral part of everyday life in the early 1900’s. The refrigerator, first introduced in the 1920’s, brought an end to the ice house industry and paved the way for other uses for the building.

The building has been part of the Biser Coal Yard, it has been the home of a tire shop, office building, East Side Antiques and now the Frederick Cellars Winery. We hope to use this wonderful space for years to come and are proud that we are able to utilize and enjoy an integral piece of Frederick history.
